The pure, unspoilt landscape of West Cork and the pristine waters of the Atlantic provide the perfect ingredients for excellent local food. Try fabulous West Cork food in one of the many fine restaurants, stop for coffee in a friendly café, pick up Durrus cheese, Glenilen Farm cheesecake or Bantry Bay mussels (to name but a few), or indeed visit some of the local food producers and meet them in person.
Bantry has fabulous restaurants such as the Fish Kitchen (New Street, 027-56651).
Near Durrus is the excellent Blairscove Restaurant, a place of great character in a beautiful Georgian house. Arundel’s by the Pier in Ahakista has excellent food and outdoor seating overlooking the small fishing harbour. Nearby is Ahakista Bar, commonly called The Tin Pub (027-67203), where there is sometimes live music - not forgetting the popular beer garden overlooking Dunmanus Bay! Durrus has four pubs some of which serve food.
Considered as one of Ireland’s best 100 restaurants in the Sunday Times, Manning’s Emporium in Ballylickey (N71, 027-50456) is a gourmet institution in the West Cork food scene. The café-delicatessen is renowned for its excellent local produce and fine wines.
